Of Ruto, sex, corruption and politics

There is a lot of hubbub around Ruto’s declaration that he will be gunning for the Presidency. Though not new, (Remember his dismal bid in 07) the media splurge has concentrated their lens on his vituperations and puerile indignation against Raila and not the odds against his grandiose project. The battlefield is the Kalenjin Rift Valley. A keen observer will most likely find out that Ruto’s rabid attempt to balkanize the Kalenjin Community from the rest of the country is for bargaining purposes rather than a credible stab at the presidency. But since he insists that he is serious about it, then we must shift the scenario of the debate from Rift Valley to Kenya and weigh his chances objectively vis-à-vis personality, resources at his disposal, organizational ability, issues and appeal with the international community.

Personality

William Kipchirchir Ruto’s personality in public is genial and affable. A wide grin and a tight handshake are always on the ready. However, knowing him closely will reveal a cocky and derisive person especially when dealing with the poor, his workers and staff. Interviews with employees and members of the public, who have interacted with him, paint a picture of a harsh snob who has no time for the unfortunate. He sneers, scowls and shout at you whenever you ask for a job or favor. His smiles are reserved for the cameras and public rallies. Even MPs who follow him around have in many occasions been snubbed and shouted at. He wears his amicable self when seeking favors from those who are equally or more moneyed than him. He dismisses other people as fools, his favorite adjective.

Ruto never keeps friends unless convenient and useful for that time. In fact, he does not have a single friend. The MPs who traversed the country with him in his ill-fated shot for the Presidency in 07 were all dumped as soon as they lost in the ODM nominations. Besides, he did not come to their financial aid prior to the nominations but rushed to finance whoever won. Those who were presumed to be close to him like former Eldoret East MP Joseph Lagat and former Kipkelion MP, Dr Sam Rutto are languishing silently and cursing Ruto publicly. The story is the same for his former allies in the last parliament. He ignores their calls and openly snubs them whenever they visit him at Kilimo House. He has taken the art of use and dump to a whole new level.

In terms of corruption, he could be the most shady and fraudulent presidential candidate ever. A legion of corruption cases are pending in court. The maize scandals are still fresh. His AMACO insurance business is notorious for tax evasion. His hotel under construction opposite Wilson Airport sits on stolen land. His Easton Apartments in Jogoo Road was built with stolen cement from Portland Cement. His flat under construction in Rongai is on a disputed plot. The list is endless. All Ruto’s wealth is ill-gotten and I wonder whether any sober Kenyan will even contemplate electing him. In fact, he had grabbed a public road reserve connecting State House to Uhuru Park!

His escapades with women are legendary. He is risqué and immoral in all extent of the meaning of that word. It is not uncommon to see young girls queuing for sex and money in his private office in Transnational Plaza every evening. He had converted his Continental House Office to a brothel before being appointed a minister. His aides claim that he cavorts with at least three women in a day. MPs have been warned not to introduce their wives or daughters to him. His home is crowded with children from extra-marital affairs not to mention a dozen others he has fathered. Relationship with his wife is nothing to write home about. His family saga is already in the public domain. One thing that baffles his aides and accomplices is that he never use any form of protection! It is unimaginable to have this sex maniac as a role model for our children in this time and age.

There is a widespread misconception that Ruto is a very generous man. It cannot be further from the truth. The truth of the matter is that he buys influence. He is indeed a master of cash diplomacy. Whenever there is a hot issue or a function he would want to appear before the cameras, he will always pay 100 000 Kshs to every Mp to attend and be seen alongside him. That is why he is very popular with broke first time young MPs like Kuttuny and Dr. Kones.

He cherishes an aura of a wealthy man. On Harambees, he will contribute generously to curry favor with the public. When it comes to his employees, family or an individual without influence, the case shifts dramatically. He can’t part with a dime. He only invests where he is sure of maximum political returns. Woe unto you, if he owes you any money, he never services his debts. Even bills. Power disconnections are common in his house!

Resources

Resources are a very important factor in winning a presidential race in Kenya. A well oiled campaign machinery requires an upward of Kshs 2 Billion. Ruto is worth but an eighth of this.

That Ruto is a very wealthy man is nothing but a myth. He is a man of means but not as much he would want us to believe. His hubris, flamboyance and ostentations have helped perpetuate this myth amongst the innocent public. In 2006 and up to 2007, Ruto was at the verge of bankruptcy. He was running a costly campaign backed by insufficient resources and unwilling donors. His salary in parliament was a paltry Kshs 100 000 because of loans. He was earning Kshs 300 000 per week as allowances in AMACO, 1.5 Million from rent in Eastons Apartment and Kshs 300 000 from rent in Matiny property in Rongai and yet his campaign budget was Kshs 2 Million per week. There was a huge gap that had to be filled. His major donor, Mr. Joshua Kulei was fatigued. Yagnesh Devani of Triton was getting pissed off. Harambee checques were bouncing by the dozens. Moi was fighting him with money that he could not match. He was in dire straits. To bridge the expenditure gap, he withdrew more and more from AMACO driving it almost belly-up.

He begged for cash left, right and centre. His home in Karen was up for auction by HFCK over unpaid mortgage to the tune of Kshs 3 Million and ditto for his houses in Rongai. Transnational Bank was threatening to sue over a 6 Million overdraft.

He was a man under siege. He sold off his plots in Nairobi but the reprieve didn’t last long. All along people used to claim he had cash stashed in foreign accounts but it was untrue. Kulei upped his weekly handout to Kshs 200 000 per week but it was insufficient. He wanted to be seen flush with cash but the image was too expensive to sustain. When he was an inch to the cliff the Raila presidential campaigns came. It was such a relief for him.

He harassed Asian tycoons to contribute to the ODM kitty through him. He is such a formidable resource mobilizer. He applied the YK 92 tactics. Money flowed in millions. The money did not get to the ODM secretariat but he utilized it to sort his financial woes and fund ODM Members of Parliament in Rift Valley, Upper Eastern, Coast, North Eastern and some in Western Kenya. Each to a tune of between 1.2 Million and 3 Million. Some of the lackeys and poodles namely Aden Duale, Ababu Namwamba, Dr Julius Kones, Charles Keter, Joshua Kuttuny and many others following him around owe their allegiance to this money.

His financial godfather Mr. Joshua Kulei gave him a whopping Kshs 300 Million in cash and a white Range Rover ( it carried a KAG registration but was changed to KAW 583) 60 Million of which he forwarded to ODM Secretariat and kept the rest. Former Triton tycoon, Mr. Yagnesh Devani, gave him 50 Million and a green Mercedes Benz E 350 (formerly carried a KAM registration but was irregularly plated KAW 600 Q, same as his green Range Rover 4.8). Not a single cent got to the ODM kitty. Kabuito Contractors magnate gave him Kshs 10 Million and a white Range Rover Discovery. These amongst many other major donors contributed almost 500 Million.

He dazzled and dazed friends and foes alike in the campaign trail with his newly acquired wealth. Even Raila himself was enthralled.

The massive millions he retained were used to jumpstart the construction of the hitherto stalled Weston Hotel (still under construction opposite Wilson airport) bought a farm for Kshs 40 Million from his business partner and MD of AMACO; Mr. Silas Simatwa and renovated his decaying Karen home. He also shilly-shallied with a consultant to build a resort in Karen.

The money he is splashing around is from sugar, maize and fertilizer tendering kickbacks in his Agriculture Ministry. If Ruto was to be fired today, then his presidential ambitions and nationwide campaigns will grind to an immediate halt. This is because he has not improved his investment portfolio since his 06/07 presidential campaigns and his relationship with his bankroller Mr. Kulei is on the rocks. He is liquid owing to his ministerial position and thieving habits but not wealthy. Only addition are the twenty China made lorries he bought from the maize scam proceeds doing transit business registered under BZK, formerly Buzeki.

Ruto’s assets can be summarized in a single paragraph: AMACO, Easton Apartments, Osere Flats in Rongai, Weston Hotel (under construction), Karen Home in Koitobos Road worth 28 Million, Elgon View Home, Sugoi Home and Farm, twenty Lorries (China made). Period. These investments cannot finance a Kshs 8 Billion campaign war chest as it was claimed in a section of the media a few weeks ago.

Campaign Organization

Organization can break or make any campaign. Obama’s campaign was a great success owing to the way he related with his staff and the free hand he gave Mr. David Axelrod to run the campaign.

With the benefit of hindsight from his failed presidential bid in 07, Ruto cannot measure up to the demands of team work necessary in a campaign of this caliber. He believes in one man show. Those who have worked with him will tell you a story of a control freak. He is hardworking, yes, but a presidential campaign is demands a formidable well coordinated campaign secretariat. In 2007, he didn’t have a secretariat but utilized the offices of Katwa and Kemboy Advocates. His ‘secretariat’ members were made up of Katwa Kigen and Julius Kemboy only. These are the people who wrote his manifesto.

His biggest undoing is money. He never believes in anybody else handling campaign money and never had a budget for the secretariat. He plays accountant, auditor, cashier and everything relating to his money. He never delegates because he believes himself to be perfect. His conceited and bigoted ego cannot allow him to learn any lessons from his 07 presidential debacle.

Since campaigns have become more high-tech and classical campaign methods are giving way to more sophisticated techniques, it remain to be seen whether he will conform. To start with, he is not computer literate; he cannot open mails nor access the internet. How he will utilize social networking sites is hard to fathom. Though he is currently on Facebook, it was his former personal assistant who ran the now dormant account.

Issues

Ruto is generally brilliant but uninformed and miserably knowledgeable. He never reads and neither does he keep himself abreast with international news. He has but one book of political quotes. That is why his speeches are replete with disjointed bookish quotes. He is so uninformed he once asked whether Iran is in South America. He would have made a formidable opponent to anybody had he spared himself some time to read and get informed.

Since he joined politics in 1992, Ruto has written four articles to the press. He has moved only one motion in Parliament. He is an avid debater but he is lacking on policy. He is yet to bring meaningful changes in the Agricultural sector. Scandals are more conspicuous than life enhancing policies. If he was to write a CV applying for the presidency then his credentials can hardly fill a single page. His track record is fit for a new address in Kamiti Maximum Prisons and not State House!

His history does not augur well with the aspirations of many Kenyans who want a clean break from the past. It will be interesting to watch him defend his tainted past in presidential debates. New economic dispensation and an end to corruption are dear issues in the hearts of many a Kenyan electorate. His records are ether bleak, obscure or dirtied in all these accounts.

International Appeal

Ruto’s international credentials leave a lot to be desired for a person who wants to run for presidency. He has zero connections with the international community. His image is tattered by numerous corruption cases that have dogged his political career. The US and the EU once banned him in early 2007 on corruption related issues. That is why he mobilized other ODM luminaries against accompanying Raila on his trip to the US the same year. His Visa has since been reinstated on unclear grounds but it might be cancelled any time in the light of new corruption allegations against him.

Weighed against Raila and Kalonzo, Ruto is an obvious light weight on this score and many other fronts.

In all fairness, it is obvious that chances of William Kipchirchir Ruto ( note that he adopted the name Samoei in 1997 for symbolic reasons, even his ID does not bear it)becoming the fourth president of the Republic of Kenya are tantamount to those of a dog becoming a lion! It is only but a decoy to balkanize and later auction the Kalenjin vote to the highest bidder.

We need to write facts and only facts for public consumption in all issues that touch on our leaders. An article that peddles lies and misrepresents facts in public domain is not only a candidate for libelious prosectuion but downright immoral and unacceptable before the eyes of right thinking minds of the public. If the author of this article escapes punishment, he or she should count his or her luck. This article appears to have been written by one Mr Samoei former PA of the subject, he seems to be very disgruntled and a bitter man, especially after the subject refused to endorse him for the Sotik parliamentary seat against the sitting MP, even though, reliable sources indicate he was given Kshs 700,000 and only garnered 40 votes in sotik by-election, after the sad demise of Hon Lorna Laboso. It is also a public secret that the author took money from the subject on pretense that he would pay for his MBA program at a local university. To add insult to injury, the subject has reportedly sought to distance himself from the bitter author, after receiving ovwerwhelming adverse complaints on the author from the public, including soliciting sexual favors from every female visitor and bribes in order for the author to arrange much sought after appointments with the subject. We hope by pouring his bitterness to the public, his soul and spirit may now go easy.

Graca's lessons for Martha Karua

The mediation process in Kenya needed the clout and mien of a motherly Graca Machel in order for Karua to mellow. Mama Machel had this to tell Karua.

"Listen to me young lady. You have not seen life. I fought as a guerilla and I have been married to two heads of state. Please don't be a nuisance and understand that we need a political solution not a legal one. We have the goodwill of the Kenyan people and the international community, if we can't make progress with you we might have to kick you out and the process will continue without you!"

The iron lady from Kirinyaga cannot understand any other language. We congratulate Mama Machel for driving sense into Karua's impervious head.

Kalonzo opposes Mediation as talks success makes him irrelevant

Long after this story was posted, Kalonzo was reported to have said "Don't rush into power sharing". This vindicates us. Read the earlier post.

Traitor-in-Chief Kalonzo Musyoka is having sleepless nights, we can now reveal. A man full of himself and buoyed temporarily by Kibaki's overtures to shore up his stolen presidency, the Annan mediation efforts have brought bad news to Kalonzo. The self-declared peacemaker found himself becoming increasingly irrelevant once Kofi Annan set foot in Kenya and succeeded in bringing Kibaki and Raila together. The likelihood of a transitional go
vernment in which president Raila Odinga is involved is sure to shove Kalonzo even farther to the cold periphery. This is giving him nightmares and But he is not taking it lying down, we can now reveal.

The king-maker-turned-coup-plotter is reportedly pushing a pro-democracy-anti-GNU-with-ODM stance in a bid to remain relevant. Kumekucha reported earlier today that
Kalonzo had bragged to Kenyans in London that the Annan talks were "aimed at asking Raila and Kibaki to hand over power to him as a moderate". Kalonzo moderate whose foot! Kalonzo must be crest-fallen as he reads about the apparent softening of positions by the ONLY two parties to this dispute.

Things started getting complicated for the overambitious Christian when word leaked that he was in the thick of a military scheme to take over of power with a soft arrangement for him to form an interim government. Kalonzo lives in a delusion in which others work for and hand over the pay to him. Things looked so certain for him that in his wry smile at Thief-in-Chief Kibaki while the latter was flying out for the desperate PR mission in Addis, told it all. That talk of the Kalonzo military miracle petered out faster than it had emerged as soon as word leaked that he was given a dressing down and instructed to publicly declare support for Kibaki. That is why you read of all that crap about odm-k being in a tactical coalition with PNU.

Kalonzo left the country thereafter for an assignment abroad including a detour through the UK and finally the US. While in the UK, he was snubbed by the premier and the Secretary David Milliband, the man in charge of Britains Foreign office. Instead, Kalonzo was met by the same man he had met in Nairobi, Lord Mark Mallock-Brown who by Kenyan equivalents is an assistant minister in charge of the African desk. In diplomatic-speak, Kalonzo was simply unwelcome in London when Kenya was receivfing firm signals to yield ground to the ODM government of the Peoples' President, Raila Odinga. Remember that Lord Mallock-Brown had come to Nairobi a fortnight or so earlier and so there was really nothing new for him and Kalonzo to discuss. Kaonzo's presence in London came at the wrong time, being immediately after the former British diplomat in Nairobi and Kibaki-basher, Sir Edward Clay was declared persona non grata. That may explain the cold reception in the powerful capital in Europe. The UK government has since expressed her disapproval of the move by Nairobi to demonise her knighted diplomat, which was rightly interpreted to be a cowardly act of intimidation for a vocal advocate of good governance in Kenya. The Brits said as much. While serving in Nairobi, Clay derided Kibaki's ministers as arrogants who vomited on the shoes of donors.

Kalonzo's next destination was an equally cold Washington. His presence in the USA was overshadowed by two embarrassing events namely Kenya's trial in the Senate and a waiting reception by hostile Kenyans. At the same time that he was in Washington to attend some prayer meetings, Kenya was receiving a good proportion of media and Senate attention. The US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Sub-Committee on African Affairs was receiving witness reports on the senseless rigging and violence in Kenya. To make matters worse for Kalonzo, ODM Diaspora, a well co-ordinated and passionate group was readying themselves to give him a 'rousing welcome'. Word got to him, in advance, and the Kenyan diplomats in a face-saving dive cancelled a scheduled meeting between Kalonzo and Kenyans in the USA. Usually, any Kenyan delegation visiting a world capital finds it warm to receive and host a delegation of patriotic countrymen and women who for one reason or another reside in that host country. It was not to be for Kalonzo who chickened out of the parley. Later, Kalonzo met the Senate leaders who are presiding over the Senate hearing, at which forum some unflattering things have been said about Kenya and its institutions done no justice. The Senate hearing by itself equates Kibaki-Kalonzo banditry to any other regime (usually the dictators) that has been examined in the Senate hearings. Such embarrassments were a preserve of Zimbabwe and pariah other states. Sadly Kibaki has taken her there and we don't know how long we will be in that dehumanising abyss. That was embarrassment again for the miracle-believing bandit veep.

Let us focus on Kalonzo's meeting with Senator Rush Feingold of Wisconsin, who is also the Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Africa in the Senate’s Committee on Foreign Relations and New Jersey Congressman, Mr Donald Peyne. First remember that he was not invited to the US by Washington, another diplomatique to mean he was not wanted really. Note the source of the "we did not invite him", yes it was non other than the US Chief diplomat in Nairobi, Michael Ranneberger. Let us remind ourselves that after a spirited campaign again managed by the ODM diaspora and a number of other interest groups who called or emailed their senators, Senator Feingold sponsored a motion in the Senate on the dispute arising from the outcome of the presidential election results leading up to the Senate hearing to which Maina Kiai and Njoki Ndungu made prsentations. Curiously, while meeting with Hon Peyne, Kalonzo, while supporting (albeit half-heartedly) the Annan-led mediation efforts had reservations about what we understand him to be saying.

Kalonzo is reported to have said and we quote "
Kalonzo argued that proposals for power sharing were reasonable, BUT such arrangements could reverse democratic gains made over the years and run contrary to the Constitution, which declares that Kenya is a multi-party democracy". Kalonzo went ahead to sing to the Daily Nation and the US State department saying that a power-sharing arrangement “is not a panacea” for Kenya’s crisis. We ask you to read that again as we wonder what is a panacea according to the miracle believer. Meanwhile, go back to what Kalonzo, Amos Kimunya and Karua said when ODM insisted on an international mediator ostensibly because "we are not at war". On countless occassions, Kalonzo insisted that Kenya did not need an international mediator because it was not at war. He wanted to arrogate himself the middleman's role between Kibaki and Raila. ODM would have non of it. This hurt him. Kofi Annan's arrival and the international community's resolve never to allow the world's top diplomat's effort to fail meant Kalonzo became irrelevant and increasingly isolated in the scheme of things. It also meant that although Kalonzo has sang of his diplomatic and conflict resolution, Annan believes otherwise. For a man who boasts mediation knowledge, which is doubtful, it was a slap in his face that Annan could get Kibaki to talk to (not at) President Raila, one on one.

Kalonzo is a wounded man. He has an over bloated ego that is easily punctured and ODM worked on that personality foible recently when, after being appointed by Kibaki to head a team to "dialogue" with ODM, he was summarily rejected as a broker who was not party to the dispute between PNU and ODM. To save face, he went on to announce that his team was heading to the country for reconciliation. One wonders which ground was he going to. The people who rejected Kibaki and his 23 ministers as well as rejecting the wiper mirage of miracles are bitter, and rightly so. The revolution was illegally stolen by people who are enjoying the spoils with the Traitor-in-Chief. Kalonzo is yet to leave town on those abortive peace missions in the countryside. And we are waiting for him where we are to tell him what he could not be told by the ODM diaspora after ducking them.

As if Kalonzo's date with fate was not over yet, he met his waterloo in a potentially damaging court case yesterday in which Dan Maanzo and Julia Ojiambo accuse him of reneging on an alleged verbal agreement to nominate them. Kalonzo has handed the two party tickets to two Muslims (Ambassador Mohammed Affey and Ms Shakira Omar)
in a bid to hoodwink the NEP and Coast into his scheme of things. This court battle portrays Kalonzo as a poor manager of his party and the bandits at SH cannot afford to "hire" an embattled foot soldier with enough baggage of his own. They will soon offload him. It is indeed doubtful whether having failed to steal the speaker's and his deputy's positions in spite of the boisterous assurances by Mutula Kilonzo in the run up to the showdown with ODM, he has no midas touch left. The brilliant and more eloquent Karua may soon be doing more than the servant-to-the-thief-in-chief.

It is at this point then that we express our reservations at Kalonzo's commitment to the resolution of the stalemate in Kenya. Kalonzo seems inept at appreciating the economic, humanitarian and democratic implications of the current stalemate. To him, in order to be important, there has to be troublemaker President Raila and a desperate Kibaki. But Annan's mediation is soon going to sort those issues out. Then, Kalonzo's use will melt and he will be dropped like a hot potato. Whereas Kibaki may have been pushed by the Kikuyu businesspeople to make peace with President Raila and allow them make their money, Kalonzo knows that Ukambani has nothing to lose in a long and drawn-out war in Kenya. The Kamba are not serious farmers, neither are they aggressive and business-friendly like the more enterprising Kikuyu who must be feeling the pinch of a Kibaki-Raila fight. Kikuyu businesses are currently suffering boycotts of their products and services. From the hairdressers in Nairobi West, the Mama Mboga in Dandora, the hotelier in Mombasa and Malindi to the manufacturers and importers to the media houses, to the NSE shares, the profits have all plummeted and Kibaki cannot afford to ignore the people who paid a-million-shillings-a-plate-of-unpalatable-sukuma-wiki to boost his rigging war chest.

At the same time, Kibaki had to respond and make concessions after the USA and Canada slapped embarrassing and restrictive travel bans on him and his key war-mongers. He knows that the UK and EU are waiting to follow suit. The US Senate has passed a resolution to freeze all non-essential aid if the Annan talks amount to another tea-drinking jaunt, which is certainly not. A deal between Kibaki and Raila will surely make Kalonzo irrelevant because there will be no need for his loose army of tribalists to shore up the transitional government with a defined agenda. Kenya is witnessing unfolding scenarios which present no opportunity to the opportunist Kalonzo. The show is in Annan's hands and he needs a team of strictly ten people. Four warriors from ODM (VP Mudavadi, Ambassador Kosgei, William Ruto, James Orengo) and the ragtag of Karua and the others hired by PNU to help her. Add President Raila and Bandit president Kibaki and you have ten.

Kalonzo was therefore informed of this possibility that once the item number three is resolved next week and the government is formed, he has to yield either his office or the fictitious clout and power to the ODM as preparations are made for a clean-up of the ECK, constitutional review and new elections. Kalonzo will increasingly become irrelevant and in the coming one year Kenyans will see him for who he truly was, an overambitious but unscheming traitor who cannot be trusted to keep his word even for the man (Dan Maanzo) who rustled a party for him. Meanwhile Maanzo and Julia Ojiambo will be wishing that they had heeded the advise of those who know the son of Tseikuru, that he believes in nothing but "Me, myself and I".

Kalonzo's argument for democracy must be understood to mean that he wants Raila in the opposition "to promote multiparty democracy". We hasten to advise Kalonzo to quit the bandit government and head to where he belongs, to serve as the diminished minority leader of a colourless opposition. He is bound for the dustbin of history, amazingly so soon after he started nursing hopes of checkmating ODM. We are headed to government and Kalonzo is headed in the opposite direction. Democracy has no friend in Kalonzo. When the history of this country is finally written, 2007-2008 will bring forth the role that Kalonzo played in sacrificing the country's democratic ideals at the shaky altar of Tseikuru for little temporary power that slipped through his fingers too soon.

For a man who served Kanu with blind loyalty and virulently opposed multiparty proponents with jest, and whose party (odm-k) in league with PNU pushed the ECK chairman Kivuitu to release the disputed results when reason should have guided him to help heal the country, his role is in the sunset of days. This raw greed for power must not be allowed to ruin Kenya. The result of that haste to release the results, and his dalliance with the SH bandits, is the bloodshed and destruction of property that we have witnessed in Kenya. Kalonzo has not seen that a win by the loser is a reversal of democratic gains. To him, being perched in the veep's office is miracle enough. Sadly, the peoples' wiper is looking for injustice and he will surely not survive with the betrayal that hangs on his neck.

The blood of innocent Kenyans who died at the hands of fellow Kenyans, heartless Mungiki and triger-happy policemen is on his glittering forehead. Each of those people are asking beyond the grave why Kalonzo was not strong enough to join the demand for justice and postpone his rush to join the banditry that is called government.

You betrayed us: Now Maanzo, Ojiambo sue Kalonzo over nominations

The traitor-in-chief has been found red-handed. Kalonzo Musyoka's running-mate and Kenya's first ever female Veep in waiting, Prof Julia Ojiambo has rocked the delicate Kibaki-Kalonzo banditry by suing the party for renegging on its earlier promise to nominate her. ODM Kenya chairman Daniel Maanzo and Julia Ojiambo have moved to court to sue vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, two nominated MPs and ECK for failure to nominate them to the 10th parliament. ODM-Kenya nominated Mr Mohammed Affey from North Eastern and Ms Shakira Omar from Coast.

They claim the move by Kalonzo in allocating the two slots to Shakila Abdalla and Mohamed Abdi Afayei is contrary to the constitution of the party. The two want the high court to stop ECK from forwarding the names of the two nominees to the president for gazettement.

They also claim that the party had nominated them only to shortchange them by nominating other people. They added that only the party's NEC had the mandate to nominate individuals and not the party leader. The two also argue that Kalonzo had turned them down even after promising to nominate them in public.

It will be remembered that Kalonzo Musyoka had promised his nadit chairman Dan Maanzo that he was the first nominated MP in the tenth parliament after Kalonzo handed the Kibwezi seat to former PC Kiilu. It was never to be. Maanzo learnt too late that the traitor-in-chief could not be trusted. Now it is Julia's turn to tell us the deal that was sealed to hand over LPK to Kalonzo and enable him escape with odm-k with which he entered into a bandit regime with Kibaki.

This new twist comes as a complete embarassment to Kalonzo who is abroad for prayers. Earlier today Kalonzo met US Senators Feingold and Peyne. While meeting with them, Kalonzo who is in a bandit power arrangement with Kibaki revealed his fears for the success of the mediation efforts by Annan whose efforts "must never fail". When he met New Jersey Congressman, Mr Donald Peyne, who has also sponsored another resolution on Kenya in the Congress, Kalonzo argued that proposals for power sharing were reasonable, but such arrangements could reverse democratic gains made over the years and run contrary to the Constitution, which declares that Kenya is a multi-party democracy. Kenyans will find these claims to be the signs of a panicking looser who cannot stand the ascendancy of the peoples' president Raila Odinga to his rightful place.

Police officer framed for Kisumu Rambo Killing

The Bandit government has done its good work again. But poorly, we can reveal. After dismissing the televised shooting of two innocent youths in Kisumu as a "Rambo movie style" piece of theatrics, the police have now framed the wrong suspect. Police Constable Edward Kirui, 24, who was reported in yesterday's briefing to be the face behind the murder of Mr George William Onyango and Mr Ishmael Chacha on Jan 16 is not responsible.

In a carefully crafted script, Kirui's framing is designed to achieve two objectives while the real culprit, a Mr Njeru walks scot free having secured a promotion transfer to a safe police unit. The officer seen in the video killing the two unarmed demonstrators and champions of the third liberation, is Police Constable Njeru formerly of Kondele Police Station in Kisumu.

We can now reveal that Kirui was to have been charged for the real crime he committed, that of shooting and critically injuring a rogue police officer who was on a shoot to kill spree in the Kibuye area of Kisumu. The officer that Kirui pursued and fell in rage was earlier reported to have shot and killed a kid who was playing football outside their home. The story was reported in the papers.

It can now be reported that linking Kirui to the death of the youth in the Rambo-like shooting, to borrow the words of police spokesman Mr Eric Denial Kiraithe, is a part of a desperate PNU scheme at divide and defeat and is meant to drive a wage between the Kalenjin and the Luo and Kisii. The two youth were Luo and Kisii, respectively. Raila Odinga got a resounding endorsement from the Kalenjin of William Ruto and anything that can dent this relationship is being worked on by the PNU strategists. This is why Edward Kirui will be charged in an unending court battle that will end with a dismissal. In the long run Njeru will have escaped justice while the PNU strategists will be able to plant a seed of suspicion and bitterness between the Kalenjin and the Luo together with the Kisii. But they won't because they have been discovered dead on their tracks.
